Inspired by concepts surrounding chaos, cohesion, and control, this piece was an attempt to find a balance and comfort amongst all by focusing on the making process. Through assembling unaltered scraps of exotic wood of assorted lengths, widths, and thicknesses, as well as various types of wood and colours, finding order through embracing chaos by utilizing the materials’ physical interactions to compactly fit within a box frame was required. To counter the meticulous and time consuming process, the box was then sealed and sliced twice at random. This piece, both in its process and final aesthetic, embodies my belief that by taking control, permitting confusion, and letting go, while holding onto faith in moments of uncertainty, lead to beautiful moments which seemingly happen unexpectedly, that we unknowingly catered in contriving.
