One day while I was exploring the forest in the winter, I came across fire sponge mushrooms growing off of trees. I observed them for a while, admiring their forms and textures- trying to remember aspects of them so that I could create a piece based off of them. As I turned to make my way home, I felt compelled to look down, and found a fallen one right next to my foot. I thanked the universe, kept it, and patiently waited for inspiration to strike. Eventually I created this piece in which I tried to honour this Fire Sponge’s strength, shape, colours, textures, and reliquary essence.
